Stimulus Ideals Conflict on the Texas Prairie →
Developers in Houston want to extend the Grand Parkway through a section of prairie known as Katy Prairie west of Houston.
This 15-lane toll connector from I-10 to US-290 will eventually become part of a third beltway around the Houston metro center. Third. 15 lanes.
The State of Texas wants to spend $181 million of it’s expected stimulus money on something that will promote exactly...

New Behemoth Game
I’m glad there are some companies still committed to the sidescroller. The makers of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers tease their new game with this video. Whatever this game is I’m excited for it.
Castle Crashers is a blast. It’s still played from time to time at our house when there are people over. And that’s saying...

A Ribbon of Dreams →
David Chase, creator of The Sopranos, is developing a new HBO series to be called A Ribbon of Dreams. It will chronicle the birth and development of Hollywood and the movie industry.
The last Sopranos alum to do more television was Matt Weiner, creator of Mad Men. If chase can create a period piece (for HBO, no less) as well as Weiner has, it has a lot of promise. Who should he cast? ...

A repository of items set up in a relational database form. Includes events, people, photos, equipment, countries, etc. Doesn’t seem like it’s structured like a wiki, at least not right now.

Episode 2 of Robert Ashley’s A Life Well Wasted is great. He visits a man with an insane collection of video games and gaming paraphernalia, a pinball museum, and a Stanford University gaming preservation project.

Spirit of Apollo
I just listened to N.A.S.A.’s Spirit of Apollo for the first time yesterday. It seems to be somewhat overhyped, especially with the smorgasbord of random guest spots.
I thought the beats on most tracks were totally dope. Not really your conventional sampling style, and included more actual instrumentation than most production… similar to what Nu-Mark, Cut Chemist, or Shadow tend to...

The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond... →
A fantastic, well-written feature for Wired Mag by Josh Davis telling the (supposed) story of the largest jewel heist in history, perpetrated by Italian Leonardo Notarbartolo and his team of expert criminals. They ripped off a vault in Antwerp for $100 million in valuables in 2003.
It sounds like a combination of Heat and Ocean’s Eleven. Makes you wonder if Notarbartolo’s own story...

My Influences →
Alex Proyas, director of such films as The Crow and Dark City, is guest blogging on Slashfilm for the next week or so.
In this post, he runs down some of his greatest influences, from William Friedkin’s The Exorcist to science fiction authors like Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein, and Ray Bradbury.
Also see his revisitation of Dark City.
I just watched the Blu-ray of Dark City a...
