I think in 5 years everything will be some kind of mashup of older products. It started in the 80s with the hip-hop sampling of Grandmaster Flash and Sugarhill. In the 90s many hip-hop artists sampled classic hip-hop tracks which themselves included samples, notably Diddy. Now we’ve got dudes Girl Talk and Kid Cudi about 3 or 4 layers deep in sampling (I don’t think what they do is really “sampling,” though).
